Travel must do : afternoon tea and spa session at the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris

Nov 30, 2012 | Parisian Eye
Have you ever wished that going Christmas shopping could leave you just appreciating a nice time in the shops, without feeling completely worn-out in the end ? The answer is yes, and I have to admit, me too !
But this year, your Christmas shopping – if you are lucky to live in Paris – could be just special, leaving you with only one totally different feeling : being actually relaxed… Yes, it is possible thanks to the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris : from December 1st to December 31st, you can book yourself for a spa session, followed by afternoon tea in order to get back on track after a hard shopping session.
Served in the the hotel gallery, tea-time at the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris is a one of a kind experience. A regular of hotel afternoon teas, I have to say this one has nothing to envy to London hotels, yet masters of the tradition.
First, the grand decor in which it is served will surely make you dream : described as the heart and soul of the hotel, La Galerie has the most exquisite art pieces on display : delicate Flemish tapestries, 19th-century paintings and furniture… Sitting there will make you travel back in the times when afternoon tea had its own codes and etiquette.
Transported by the classical airs played on a Steinway, you will be in the best condition to taste what the tea menu has to offer, as I was.
The « thé à la française », coming with a prestige « Blanc de Blancs » champagne by Taittinger, is updated every season. For the Christmas season, it has just been renewed to offer the appropriate tastes.
I decided to start with
a delicious, rich and deep « spicy » hot chocolate… And was happy I
had skipped the tea for it ! As the nice waitress had told me, this
chocolate blend had just been added to the menu and I immediately got
why : as I sipped on it, I literally felt transported in a Christmas
market with its delicious taste of ginger bread. Ideal for to get in the
holiday season spirit !

I then passed on to the assortment of fine warm savories : a selection of
the tastiest seasonal foods. Shrimps, foie gras, traditional winter vegetables,
and – lucky me, one of my favorites dishes : an amazing lentil soup, that
has my mouth watering again just thinking about it.

I went on with the pastries. Again, I was lucky enough to have one of my favorites on the plate : a tasty layered puff pastry… But not only : a macaroon, a deep chocolate cake and a delicious cup of fresh fruits were to be appreciated as well.
After a little pause – and because it would have been a shame not to try everything, although the variety and quantity of what was on offer could have been enough already, I went on with the selection of more sweet delicacies : first, a few typically French ones (a cannelé from Bordeaux, a madeleine, a financier)… And, as an afternoon tea would not be one without it, a home-made scone with clotted cream !
Luckily for me, I had decided to have my glass of champagne after the tea… And I had made the right decision, as it was the perfect way to end this spectacular afternoon.

As for the specially dedicated spa session will insist on your feet and legs, much sollicited during that time of the year, going from store to store… You will then be able to fully enjoy the afternoon champagne tea in the wonderful hotel gallery… So make sure you book yours !

Seasons George V, the most beloved Parisian palace and in a class of its own…
